Mick O Dwyer enjoyed a stellar football playing career winning four All Ireland medals between 1959 and 1970. He also won eight All Ireland medals as manager of Kerry between 1975 and 1986. These were followed up with Leinster titles as manager of both Kildare and Laois making him a uniquely successful man in Irish sport and the greatest Gaelic football manager of all time.
He was a man of conviction, challenging accepted wisdoms. His charisma makes him a cultural icon beyond sport.
